EU Funding

  7th Framework Programme (Web)

'Framework programmes' (FPs) have been the main financial tools through which the European Union supports research and development activities covering almost all scientific disciplines. FPs are proposed by the European Commission and adopted by Council and the European Parliament following a co-decision procedure. This link will guide you to all available information about FP7.

  German National Contact Point (Web)

National Contact Points (NCPs) are established in each EU member state and provide a local support on the EU Funding. Every company will find a specific responsible person for the different research and innovation areas. The NCP Life Science in Bonn provides a comprehensive website with detailed information on the 6th framework programme, the thematic priorities (for example 1.1.5 food safety and quality), the funding for SMEs, the description of project instruments (e.g. 2.1 SME specific measurements), rules for participation, partner search, open calls, statistics and a list of funding data bases.

  Austrian project initiation grants (Anbahnungsfinanzierung)

Austrian universities, research institutions and enterprises can apply for project initiation grants (Anbahnungsfinanzierung) at the sterreichische Forschungsfrderungsgesellschaft (FFG), the Austrian National Contact Point for the EU framework programms. This funding is granted in order to finance the costs of initiating a FP7 project and writing the proposal. The grants are 15.000,-- for coordinators and 7.000,-- for partners. The deadline for applying for the initiation grant is always three week before the deadline of the respective calls for proposals.

Photonics 21 (Web)

The Photonics21 platform provides a forum for all players in the photonics industry in Europe. By drawing members from industry, research, politics and professional associations, Photonics21 acts as an interface between the EU and industry, as a means of directing research towards practical applications. The platform has over 500 members hailing from 21 EU member states and 6 other countries. They have elected Alexander von Witzleben, chairman of the executive board of JENOPTIK AG, as the president of Photonics21. The Technology Platform is supported as a joint undertaking by leading European photonics companies. The members of its executive board belong to leading European companies such as TRUMPF Laser and Electronics Division, Bookham Technology plc, Sagem Défense Sécurité, Philips Lighting B.V. and Carl Zeiss AG. This website is hosted by VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH which is a subsidiary company of the VDI (The Association of Engineers).

The importance of photonics is underlined by the leverage they exercise on other leading sectors such as the automotive industry, medical engineering, life sciences and information and communication technology. A high-level group of representatives of research and industry in Photonics as well as user industries and other stakeholders have launched this European initiative to promote Photonics in the European Research Area. The document “Photonics for the 21st century”(LINK) provides the rationale and the justification for the important political process that is needed to implement a coordinated

Farm animal breeding and reproduction (Web)

FABRE-TP aims to support stakeholder involvement in the set up of a partnership led by industry to tackle major issues concerning sustainable animal breeding and reproduction in Europe, and taking into account what is happening in the developing world. Animal breeding is a knowledge intensive sector, and for the competitiveness and the future of animal breeding and animal production, high level European research is indispensable. This ETP is hosted by EFFAB, the European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders, which is an independent European forum of farm animal reproduction and selection organisations in cattle and other ruminants, pigs, poultry and aquaculture.

ABRE TP has developed a vision paper on farm animal breeding and reproduction on the medium to long term (15-20 years). FABRE-TP and the Vision Paper (LINK) have been launched at 2 March 2006 at the Salon de l'Agriculture in Paris.

In 2006, a Strategic Research Agenda (LINK) was made, and an implementation plan will be drafted, discussed and implemented. The aim is to get the commitment of the stakeholders involved, including business, research organizations and funding organizations at the national level. The document gives an overview on the diversity of animal populations, on the regional, national, European and global level in breeding, explains the future scenarios and shows the animal breeding landscape in 5, 15 and 25 years time.
